Am Morgen des 24.12.2022 wurde der Leitstelle der Polizei Recklinghausen gegen 10:40 Uhr über Notruf ein Brand im Bereich eines innerstädtischen Wohn – und Geschäftshauses gemeldet. Die Hausbewohner hatten das Gebäude, aus dem eine starke Rauchentwicklung feststellbar war, schon vor Eintreffen der Rettungskräfte verlassen. Die mit vier Löschzügen und insgesamt 60 Einsatzkräften vor Ort eingesetzte Feuerwehr konnte den Brand zeitnah unter Kontrolle bringen und ein Übergreifen der Flammen auf andere Gebäude verhindern. Am brandbetroffenen Gebäude und dem dahinter befindlichen Innenhof entstand erheblicher Brandschaden. Personen kamen nicht zu Schaden. Die nähere Umgebung des engeren Brandortes musste für mehrere Stunden durch die Polizei Recklinghausen gesperrt werden. Der Bürgermeister und der Landrat erschienen vor Ort. Angaben zur Brandursache können aufgrund der aktuellen Ermittlungen, die durch die Kriminalpolizei Recklinghausen übernommen wurden, noch nicht gemacht werden. Der Brandort wurde beschlagnahmt.

The residents of the house had left the building, from which heavy smoke could be seen, before the rescue workers arrived. The fire brigade deployed on site with four fire engines and a total of 60 emergency services were able to bring the fire under control in a timely manner and prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings. Significant fire damage was caused to the building affected by the fire and the inner courtyard behind it. People were not harmed. The immediate vicinity of the narrower location of the fire had to be closed for several hours by the Recklinghausen police. The mayor and the district administrator appeared on site. Information on the cause of the fire cannot yet be given due to the current investigations, which were carried out by the Recklinghausen criminal police. The scene of the fire was confiscated.
