POL-UL: (UL) Merklingen/A8 – Stau nach Unfall mit Sattelzügen
Am Montag geriet bei einem Unfall auf der A8 bei Merklingen ein Sattelzug in Vollbrand.

Gegen 7.20 Uhr fuhr ein 29-Jähriger mit seinem Scania Sattelzug auf der Autobahn in Richtung München. Er nutzte den rechten Fahrstreifen der A8. Kurz vor Merklingen stand ein MAN Sattelzug wegen einer Panne auf dem Seitenstreifen. Aus einer bislang unklaren Ursache prallte der Scania gegen den stehenden MAN und beschädigte diesen über die komplette linke Fahrzeugseite. Anschließend hielt der 29-Jährige mit seinem Laster nach rund 100 Metern auf dem Standstreifen an. Durch die Beschädigungen fing der Scania Feuer und die Zugmaschine samt Auflieger brannten vollständig aus. Der Auflieger war mit etwa 40 Tonnen Zeitschriften beladen. Die Feuerwehr war mit einem Großaufgebot im Einsatz und löschte den Brand. Der MAN des 58-Jährigen verlor durch den Schaden größere Mengen der Ladung. Zur Unfallzeit befanden sich etwa 40 Tonnen Kunststoff-Granulat auf dem Auflieger. Das verteilte sich großflächig auf der gesamten Fahrbahn. Der 29-Jährige erlitt durch den Unfall leichte Verletzungen. Rettungskräfte brachten ihn in ein Krankenhaus. Die Verkehrspolizei Mühlhausen (Tel. 07335/96260) nahm die Ermittlungen zur Ursache des Unfalls auf. Den Sachschaden am Scania schätzt die Polizei auf 200.000 Euro, am MAN auf etwa 120.000 Euro. Für die Dauer der Bergungsarbeiten musste die Fahrbahn in Richtung München über mehrere Stunden voll gesperrt werden. Für die Bergung der Ladung waren die Feuerwehr mit Spezialgeräten im Einsatz. Die Sperrung dauert aktuell, bis voraussichtlich etwa 14 Uhr, an. Die Autobahnmeisterei leitet den Verkehr an der Anschlussstelle Mühlhausen aus. Es kam zu kilometerlangem Stau. Die erheblichen Verkehrsbehinderungen dauern an.

On Monday, a semi-truck caught fire in an accident on the A8 near Merklingen.

At around 7:20 a.m., a 29-year-old man was driving his Scania tractor-trailer on the highway in the direction of Munich. He was using the right lane of the A8. Shortly before Merklingen, a MAN tractor-trailer was on the hard shoulder due to a breakdown. For reasons that are not yet clear, the Scania collided with the stationary MAN and damaged it over the entire left side of the vehicle. Subsequently, the 29-year-old stopped with his truck after about 100 meters on the hard shoulder. As a result of the damage, the Scania caught fire and the tractor unit and trailer burned out completely. The trailer was loaded with about 40 tons of magazines. The fire department was deployed with a large contingent and extinguished the fire. The 58-year-old’s MAN lost large quantities of its load as a result of the damage. At the time of the accident, there were about 40 tons of plastic granulate on the trailer. This spread over a large area of the entire roadway. The 29-year-old suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident. Rescue workers took him to a hospital. The Mühlhausen traffic police (Tel. 07335/96260) took up the investigation into the cause of the accident. The police estimate the material damage to the Scania at 200,000 euros, to the MAN at about 120,000 euros. For the duration of the recovery work, the road in the direction of Munich had to be fully closed for several hours. The fire department used special equipment to salvage the load. The closure is currently expected to last until around 2 pm. The freeway maintenance department is diverting traffic at the Mühlhausen junction. There were kilometer-long traffic jams. The considerable traffic obstructions are continuing.
